What does TTL stand for on a boat? ›

TTL, Total Trip Log, calculates the total miles that have been covered by the boat. If the TTL is shown by a nautical GPS, it will indicate the total miles since the device started operating.

For DigitalOcean Spaces, the edge cache TTL determines how long the CDN's edge servers keep a particular copy of your files before getting the current version from the origin. A longer TTL gives better performance with the tradeoff that users won't see updated content until the existing content expires.

If you have a TTL of 1800 (seconds) for your failover record and it fails over to the second IP, users will not be directed to the updated IP for up to 30 minutes (until the cache in the resolver expires). With this in mind, you are going to want to set a low TTL and the lower the better.

Generally, we recommend a TTL of 24 hours (86,400 seconds). However, if you are planning to make DNS changes, you should lower the TTL to 5 minutes (300 seconds) at least 24 hours in advance of making the changes. After the changes are made, increase the TTL back to 24 hours.
