10:20 A.M.
Millie Bobby Brown and Sadie Sink were hitching a ride with Hailee Steinfeld, who was driving them to the Marvel anniversary event after deciding that they would accept the invitation after all.
But Sadie couldn’t shake off the feeling that they were walking into the lion’s den, and trying to put that fear away was much easier said than done.
To distract herself from it, Sadie joined the conversation about whether they had any plans after the games were over of Hailee and Millie.
Eventually, they arrived at the venue of the event, a medium-sized banquet hall, decorated all in red and white, with the silhouettes of the many heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe hanging from the walls.
After getting out of Hailee’s car, the three actresses walked into the place, Sadie was wearing a white ensemble of cotton jacket, cotton pants, and platform sandals, while Millie had the simple yet elegant strapless black mini dress, black stockings, and white pumps.
On her side, Hailee was wearing a black crossbody ruffle and lace mini dress, matching lace opera gloves, and over-the-knee leather boots.
“I hope that we are not being tardy”, Millie said.
“An actress is never tardy, only fashionably late”, Hailee noted with a cheeky smile before continuing, “Have fun”.
Hailee kissed Millie and Sadie on the cheek before leaving, crossing the lobby and quickly disappearing into the crowd of actresses that had already arrived.
The pair of actresses started to slowly walk into the banquet hall after crossing the lobby, as they moved past a few small groups of actresses chatting and laughing, Sadie started to notice a couple of things that didn’t relieve her worries.
The first one was that the only men at the event seemed to be the waiters of the catering service who walked around carrying trays full of entrees, appetizers, and champagne glasses, and the second one was that the Marvel actresses were the only ones that had assisted to the event as far as she could see.
Some of them belonged to the Marvel Lounge, some others were members of the club but weren’t participating in the games, but they had all played a Marvel character at some point in their careers.
“I have a very bad feeling about this”, Sadie cautioned as they continued walking.
Millie felt that paranoia was starting to get the better of her friend, but she had to admit that the lack of guys was definitely not a good sign, for what was supposed an anniversary event, she had seen neither of the Toms nor either of the Chris.
Once they reached the center of the hall, they were approached by Iman Vellani and Kathryn Newton, two of the newest additions to the MCU.
Iman was wearing a purple Gaurav Gupta gown with oversized ruffles, while Kathryn wore a pink sequin strapless dress.
After the actresses greeted each other, each of them grabbed a glass of champagne from a tray that one of the many waiters was carrying around, and later they were offered cheese cubes and fruit skewers.
While they were busy talking about their upcoming projects, Millie felt the need to excuse herself to go to powder her nose, asking where the bathroom was.
“Oh, go down that hall and turn left, then just keep going until you find the signs on the doors”, Iman answered.
Soon after Millie relieved herself and washed her hands, she was about to go back to the party, when she saw on the other side of the hall that two women were walking out of a door.
Millie couldn’t tell from the distance who they were because they had black masks covering the lower part of their faces, so all she could see was that both were wearing ruched one-shoulder bodycon midi dresses, one was black and the other one was dark grey.
As it seemed that the women hadn’t seen her, and wanting to see if Sadie’s intuition was right, Millie quickly walked towards the door from where those mysterious women had just walked out, then dashed inside and closed the door behind her.
The room was completely dark, the sounds of chains rattling and what seemed to be moaning made Millie scramble to find a light switch as soon as she could, and when the light was turned on, it revealed the true goal of the event.
It turned out that Sadie had been right all along, this supposed celebratory gala was nothing but a way to lure game participants onto the trap set up by the Marvel Lounge, as Millie could now see six bound and gagged women in their co*cktail dresses of several muted dark shades of grey, three standing against each sidewall of the room.
The six actresses were all restrained in the same way, with leather cuffs around their ankles immobilizing their legs, their wrists cuffed above their heads, connected by long chains to hooks on the ceiling, and finally, they all had duct tape wrapped around their heads, gagging them with something stuffed in their mouths, making their cheeks bulge.
“MMMMMMPPPPPPHHHHHHHH”, the chorus of helpless captives tried to ask Millie for help through their gags.
Shocked by the sight, Millie’s instincts took over and made her flee the room, leaving the captives to their fates, as Millie returned to Sadie’s side.
“Did you find it?” Kathryn asked.
“Yeah, thanks”, Millie replied.
“Are you okay?” Sadie asked sensing that there was something off.
“I’m fine, I’m fine”, the distress in Millie’s tone was obvious no matter how much she may have tried to hide it, “Can you excuse us for a moment?”
As Millie dragged Sadie away from the Marvel actresses, Sadie was getting increasingly worried about her friend.
“We have to get out of here”, Millie said in a hushed but very alarmed tone.
“What? Why?” Sadie said as she turned her head back to where Iman and Kathryn were still standing flashing them the less fake smile that she could.
“You were right, this has been a trap all along”, Millie blurted in still the same hushed tone.
“What? How? Are you sure?”, Sadie asked.
“Absolutely, after I left the bathroom, I entered a room where they are keeping captive the actresses that got here before us”, Millie replied.
“Did you recognize anyone?” Sadie had to admit she was morbidly curious.
“No, I just glanced at the room and bailed out ”, Millie sheepishly answered.
“I think that we need to get out of here before we are the next ones”, Sadie said.
Millie and Sadie turned around to see that Hailee was talking to Hayley Atwell before putting on a black mask that matched her dress and handing Hayley a black mask too, who was wearing a silver lamé sleeveless gown that reached the floor.
As the now-masked Hayley and Hailee started to walk in their direction, Millie and Sadie rushed in the direction of the door as well.
Between that they all were wearing high heels of variable heights and wanting to keep a low profile to avoid catching the attention of non-members of the club present, neither of them was outright running and instead limited themselves to what you would a power walk speed.
While concerned about how Hayley and Hailee were quickly cutting the distance between them, Millie and Sadie had finally reached the lobby which connected the proper event hall with the front door, but Millie and Sadie were so worried about keeping track of their pursuers by looking constantly behind them that they ended up crashing onto two individuals that had just arrived.
Given that they were walking instead of running, their speed wasn’t enough to knock anyone to the floor, but it was still an impact.
“Are you alright?” the person that Sadie had crashed into asked in a worried tone.
“Yeah, I’m fine, I wasn’t looking where I was going, I’m so sorry”, Sadie replied.
“This is a trap and you have to get out of here”, Millie blurted out on the verge of a panic attack.
“What you mean?” the one that Millie had crashed into said before noticing that two women in black masks were very quickly approaching them.
Millie finally looked at who she and Sadie had crashed into, immediately recognizing them as the leaders of the Cyberqueens, the streamers Valkyrae and Pokimane, who were wearing a navy blue one-shoulder asymmetrical midi dress and an olive green satin asymmetrical midi dress, respectively, along with white heeled sandals.
Only now realizing that due to accepting Hailee’s ride to the event, they had no way to get back home, Sadie asked: “Did you arrive on your own?”.
“Yeah, that’s my car”, Valkyrae said pointing to the black Lamborghini Urus still parked outside.
The group of four dashed out of the building just in time and right before Hailee and Hayley could reach them.
Valkyrae quickly grabbed the keys that she had just given to the rather confused valet, while Pokimane got up on the passenger seat and Millie and Sadie accommodated themselves in the backseat.
Considering that the valet parking was a service offered by the venue and not something hired by the Club, so Hayley and Hailee opted to avoid chasing outside in broad daylight, stay inside, and return to the party, not before flipping them off with both hands.
As the SUV speeded away from the banquet hall and now that the danger had passed, there was the very tense and rather awkward situation of the leader of the Sisterhood and the closest thing that the group had to a second-in-command being in the same car as the leaders of the Cyberqueens.
