The season is coming to an end in the ECNL Regional League and the playoffs for the South region are ready to start this week, with matches taking place at Russell Creek Park, in Plano, TX, from June 5-9.
As many as 88 teams, many of which are from Texas, will be in action in the event, battling to end their seasons with the region’s title. Here are five players who could have major roles with their teams over the week in the Dallas region.
Kalani Brundage

School: Forney
Club: Solar SC
Brundage is a dynamic offensive player, who helped Solar SC RL 09 finish at the top of the standings in the Texas Conference with 12 wins and two ties. She’s very quick on the ball and can punish defenders who check out for a single second when defending her. Brundage dribbles the ball extremely well, but is also very effective with how she times her runs in behind the backline and explores the space. Brundage is also a real hard-working player, who believes in every play and fights for the ball with everything that she has.

Lauren Peek
Club: FC Dallas
The versatile Peek plays for the FC Dallas RL 08 team that was third in the Texas Conference with ten wins, three losses and one tie. She’s mostly used in midfield, but can also appear in the backline and wherever she is, she delivers energy to defend and solid skills on the ball. Peek is very efficient with her passing and contributes offensively by supporting the team’s buildups. She also hits the ball extremely well and can be a threat in set pieces.

Club: SG1
Bailey was one of the defensive rocks of the SG1 RL 08 team that ranked first in the USC TX division with 12 wins and one loss. She had a very solid high school freshman season with Jordan, being an integral part of the team that made a very deep run. Bailey has good size to defend in the air, but is also very mobile when she needs to put pressure on opponents in the open field. She’s also very calm with her actions and typically makes excellent decisions, even when under pressure.

Club: Dallas Texans
Pafford plays for the Dallas Texans RL07 team that finished sixth in the Texas Conference with seven wins, four losses and three ties. She’s very intelligent and technical with her passing and does a very good job of finding passing lanes in busy areas of the field. She can also play as a right back, where she does solid work on both sides of the ball, defending with good intensity and smart moves and offering a passing option on the right. Pafford is also very precise with her set pieces and often sends dangerous crosses into the penalty box.

Club: Albion Hurricanes FC
Varela and her Albion Hurricanes FC RL 07 team finished fourth in the Texas Conference with eight wins, one loss and five ties. She plays primarily on the left for them, but has excellent movement off the ball and the freedom to roam around the final third, looking for the best spot to make plays. Very technical and quick in her mind, Varela can dribble in tight spaces with ease and is very direct around the penalty box. She’s also an excellent finisher, who uses both feet well to send the ball into the back of the net.
